An old-fashioned wood frame building in Oakland with elaborate cornices.

OAKLAND

HIP has partnered with the City of Oakland's Department of Housing and Community Development to provide data analytics to inform and evaluate the City's rent relief efforts.

OUR WORK IN OAKLAND

OUR PARTNERS
Shola Olatoye, Director, Housing and Community Development, City of Oakland
Maryann Leshin, Deputy Director, Housing and Community Development, City of Oakland
Christina Mun, Senior Advisor, Housing and Community Development, City of Oakland
Jackelyn Hwang, Assistant Professor of Sociology, Stanford University
THE PROJECT
Oakland received a small initial CARES Act allocation ($4 million) that was not sufficient to create a new rental relief program. Instead, the City relied on existing regional eviction diversion efforts as channels to make additional grants to households. However, Oakland has since received additional funds from the State of California and launched a rental relief program in September 2020.

HIP is supporting Oakland by providing market studies and analyses of rent relief applicant data and resident survey data to inform the City's housing response to COVID-19.
